PictoChain is built with privacy in mind. We collect minimal data required to operate the app. Your pictogram sequences stay on your device, and we never sell or share personal information with third parties for advertising purposes.

Overview

PictoChain is a pictogram sequence builder for families and educators. It uses Sign In with Apple for authentication and connects to the PictoApps backend for pictogram search. This policy explains what data the app collects and how it's used.

Data We Don't Collect

PictoChain does not collect any of the following:

  • Your real name, email address, or phone number (Sign In with Apple uses a relay address)
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers for advertising
  • The content of your pictogram sequences
  • Photos or camera roll content
  • Any data from other apps on your device

Authentication

PictoChain uses Sign In with Apple for account creation and login. Apple provides PictoChain with an anonymous, app-specific identifier. If you choose to hide your email, Apple generates a private relay address that forwards to your real email without revealing it to us.

Authentication tokens are stored securely in your device's Keychain and are used to communicate with the PictoApps backend API.

Analytics

PictoChain uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (by Google) to collect anonymous usage analytics and crash reports. This helps us improve app stability and understand which features are most useful. Data collected includes:

  • App launch and screen view events
  • Feature usage counts (search, chain creation, display mode changes)
  • Crash reports with device type and OS version
  • Anonymous session data (no personal identifiers)

Firebase Analytics does not collect advertising identifiers. Learn more at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

In-App Purchases

PictoChain uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipt data from Apple. It does not receive your name, email, or any personal information. Learn more at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Local Storage

All pictogram sequences, preferences, and customization settings are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. Your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it.

Network Requests

PictoChain connects to the internet for:

  • Authenticating via Sign In with Apple and the PictoApps backend
  • Searching pictograms via the PictoApps API
  • Loading pictogram images from the PictoApps server
  • Sending anonymous analytics to Firebase
  • Processing in-app purchases via RevenueCat

All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.

Children's Privacy

PictoChain is designed to be used by parents, educators, and therapists alongside children. The app does not collect personal information from children. All data associated with the app is tied to the adult's Sign In with Apple account.

Third-Party Services

  • Sign In with Apple — authentication. Privacy policy
  • PictoApps API — pictogram search and images (our own backend)
  • Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics — anonymous analytics and crash reports. Privacy policy
  • RevenueCat — subscription management. Privacy policy

No advertising networks or cross-app tracking services are used.

Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated server-side data at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete Account). Local data on your device can be removed by deleting the app.
