PictoTalk is built with privacy at its core. Your communication boards, sentences, and vocabulary stay on your device. I collect only what's necessary to run the app, and I never sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising.

Overview

PictoTalk is an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app for iOS and macOS. It stores your communication boards locally on your device and connects to the internet only for pictogram search, analytics, and subscription management. This policy explains what data the app collects and how it's used.

Data We Don't Collect

PictoTalk does not collect any of the following:

  • Your real name, email address, or phone number
  • The content of your communication boards or sentences
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers for advertising
  • Photos or camera roll content
  • Any data from other apps on your device

Local Storage

All communication boards, pictogram layouts, vocabulary, and preferences are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. Your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export and share it. Deleting the app removes all local data.

Pictogram Search

When you search for pictograms, PictoTalk connects to the PictoApps backend to retrieve search results and images. Search queries are used only to return results and are not stored or linked to your identity.

Analytics

PictoTalk uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (by Google) to collect anonymous usage analytics and crash reports. This helps me improve the app and understand which features are most useful. Data collected includes:

  • App launch and screen view events
  • Feature usage counts (board navigation, sentence composition, settings changes)
  • Crash reports with device type and OS version
  • Anonymous session data (no personal identifiers)

Firebase Analytics does not collect advertising identifiers. Learn more at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

In-App Purchases

PictoTalk uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipt data from Apple. It does not receive your name, email, or any personal information. Learn more at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Network Requests

PictoTalk connects to the internet for:

  • Searching pictograms via the PictoApps API
  • Loading pictogram images from remote servers
  • Sending anonymous analytics to Firebase
  • Processing in-app purchases via RevenueCat

All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.

Children's Privacy

PictoTalk is designed to be used by parents, educators, and therapists alongside people who need AAC support. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children. All boards and vocabulary are stored locally on the caregiver's device.

Third-Party Services

  • PictoApps API — pictogram search and images (our own backend)
  • Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics — anonymous analytics and crash reports. Privacy policy
  • RevenueCat — subscription management. Privacy policy

No advertising networks or cross-app tracking services are used.
